Pointing Dog of medium proportions type Braque, of noble appearance, powerful, but not burdensome, robust and highly-endowed. Females are finer. The skin is soft, loose.

The Braque French comes in two types: the large “type Gascogne” and small “type Pyrenees. Both are from the south-west France and Central Pyrenees, where they remained pure.

IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS
The length of muzzle is slightly less than the skull.

HEAD
Somewhat important, but not too heavy. The lines of the skull and muzzle are slightly divergent

CRANIAL REGION
Skull
Almost flat or slightly domed with a central groove slightly accentuated. The occipital protuberance is not prominent.

Stop
The fracture of the nose is not buried or reinforced.

FACIAL REGION
Truffle
The nose is big, brown, well opened nostrils.

Muzzle
The muzzle is broad and rectangular, sometimes a little convex.

Lips
The lips are brought down and the commissure of the lips is quite wrinkled.

Jaws / Teeth
Complete dentition. The bite is tolerated.

Eyes
Although open and well set into orbit, brown or dark yellow. The gaze is frank.

Ears
Medium length, set at the height of the line of the eye, not too wide at their base, surrounding the well head, slightly creased and rounded at the tip. One or two vertical lines may exist on the playing level and slightly above the attachment of the ear. The tips of the ears should reach the birth of the nose.

NECK
Good length, slightly arched at the top with always a little dewlap.

BODY
Dos
Broad, straight, sometimes a little long, but always well supported.

Chest
Broad face, long profile, reaching the elbow, ribs rounded without exaggeration.

Kidneys
Short, muscular, slightly arched.

Croup
Slightly oblique to the line above.

Stomach
Flanks flat belly slightly tucked.

TAIL
Usually shortened and still good the convexity of the line of the croup, although the long tail, if it is paid, is not a failure nor a short tail of birth.

FOREQUARTERS
Upright, broad and muscular.

Shoulders
Very muscular and moderately oblique

Elbows
At the sternum.

Bras
Strong and well muscled.

Feet
Toes tight and well arched giving a compact, almost round, nails strong, fleshy pads well.

Hindquarters
Upright.

Thigh
Well muscled.

Hocks
Moderately bent.

Leg
Muscular.

Metatarsus
Fairly short.

Feet
Compact, almost round.

DRESS
HAIR
Rather large and well furnished; thinner head and ears.

COLOR
Brown.
Brown and white.
Brown and white, heavily speckled.
Brown with tan markings (above the eyes, lips and limbs).

DEFECTS
Any deviation from the above should be considered a failure to be in exact proportion to its severity.
Dog too heavy or too light.
Too pronounced occipital protuberance.
Lips too thick or not sufficiently lowered.
Round eyes because of the exaggeration of zygomatic arch and supraorbital.
Ears flat, too short or too curled.
Belly tucked up.
Trampled.

ELIMINATING FAULTS
Lines of the skull and muzzle converging or diverging too.
Nose double truffle highly depigmented.
Overshot or less.
Entropion, ectropion, stingy with the birth of the eyelids.
No tail (tailless).
Syndactyly, polydactyly, adactylie.

N.B.
Males should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum
